USM Alger won its second African Super Cup on Sunday, November 8, in Pretoria by defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, three years after its first title in the competition.

Zakaria Draoui opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute following a breakthrough by Ahmed Khaldi on the right side. The Algerian striker beat a defender before serving his teammate in front of the goal, quickly giving the Confederation Cup winner the lead.

Mamelodi Sundowns equalized in the 25th minute through Iqraam Rayners, who came on after Brayan León’s injury. The South African striker converted a penalty awarded following a video assistant referee intervention for a handball. USM Alger regained the lead twelve minutes later thanks to Saadi Radouani, who headed in a ball that had bounced off the crossbar after a corner.

A heavy rain delayed the start of the second half by about thirty minutes. Ahmed Khaldi then increased the score to 3-1 in the 55th minute with a curling shot from outside the box. Having scored a goal and provided an assist, he also forced goalkeeper Ronwen Williams into a save on a volley attempt.

The South Africans tried to close the gap, but Algerian goalkeeper Oussama Benbot preserved his team’s lead. An own goal that would have revived the home side was disallowed late in the match after video review, as the ball had gone out of play earlier in the action.

This victory gives USM Alger a second African Super Cup after the one won in 2023. The Algiers club secured its place in this edition by winning the 2025-2026 Confederation Cup on penalties against Zamalek.

Mamelodi Sundowns entered the match as the winner of the 2025-2026 African Champions League following their victory against AS FAR in the final. However, the South African club was eliminated in the qualifying rounds of the following edition by Wiliete SC and will not defend their title in the group stage.

USM Alger receives $500,000 for its victory. According to the Confederation of African Football, four of the last five Super Cups have been won by the holder of the Confederation Cup.
