The African Football Confederation confirmed on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Samson Adamu as Secretary General, after seven months as interim within the continental body. The decision of its Executive Committee places the Nigerian official at the head of the daily administration of the CAF.
According to the Confederation, this confirmation is the result of a recruitment process during which the position was widely advertised and several candidates were interviewed. CAF President Patrice Motsepe described this procedure as a thorough selection process.
Samson Adamu will oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and support the implementation of its strategic priorities. His appointment ends the interim period that began in March following the departure of Véron Mosengo-Omba, who subsequently became president of the Congolese Football Federation.
Having joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions, Adamu subsequently held the position of Director of Tournaments and Events. The organization emphasizes that he played a significant role in the organization of several continental events, including the Africa Cup of Nations.
This path placed him at the heart of competition preparation before his appointment to the general secretariat. He holds a degree from the FIFA Master program in international management, law, and humanities of sport.
