Twelve people were placed under remand in Abidjan following their appearance on Friday, October 16, 2026, before the Anti-Terrorism Section of the Court of First Instance, in the investigation into the death of Gendarmerie Second Lieutenant Daniogo Klênon Lacina, according to a statement from the prosecutor dated October 20.
A judicial investigation has been opened against the twelve accused on several charges, including terrorist acts, assassination, attack and conspiracy against the authority of the State, as well as participation in an insurrectionary movement. These individuals remain presumed innocent until a court has established their guilt.
Second Lieutenant Daniogo Klênon Lacina was killed on October 20, 2025, on the Grand-Yapo–Agboville route. According to the prosecutor’s office, armed individuals opposed to the holding of the presidential election opened fire on a gendarmerie patrol.
The Public Prosecutor at the Abidjan Court of First Instance, Koné Braman Oumar, stated that the investigation had led to several arrests. According to his statement, the individuals questioned admitted their involvement in the events and identified Aké Jean Marius as the alleged shooter targeting the gendarmes.
The same document states that this suspect, apprehended after being sought, admitted to shooting at the soldiers with a Kalashnikov-type weapon. He was brought before the anti-terrorism court along with eleven other individuals.
The prosecutions mentioned by the public prosecutor are based notably on the law of June 11, 2024, concerning the repression of terrorism and on several provisions of the Ivorian Penal Code. The opening of the judicial inquiry now entrusts the examination of the facts and responsibilities to an investigating judge.
