The main suspect in the death of an eight-month pregnant woman in Agboville was extracted by the gendarmes after being confronted by local residents, according to the Ivorian Press Agency. The man, the victim’s partner, was hospitalized under supervision before being questioned by investigators.
The tragedy occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, in the Baygon neighborhood, in the Agboville municipality. The victim, aged 21 according to several local media outlets, was fatally attacked at their home under circumstances that are currently under investigation.
According to the initial information reported by AIP, a dispute reportedly occurred between the young woman and her partner before the assault. Security forces conducted an investigation and have opened an inquiry to precisely establish the sequence of events and determine responsibility.
The suspect was located a few hours later in a village in the commune. Local residents confronted him as he tried to flee. Seriously injured, he was removed from the scene by the gendarmes to prevent a lynching and then evacuated to the Adzopé Regional Public Hospital.
According to AIP, he must be interviewed by investigators after his health condition has stabilized. The investigation remains open.
