A truck loaded with rubberwood veered off the road and killed four people on Saturday, October 17, 2026, around 10:30 a.m. in Irobo, on the Dabou-Grand-Lahou route, according to information published by the Ivorian Press Agency and KOACI.
The two media outlets estimate the cargo at approximately 40 tons and agree on a death toll of four. However, their accounts differ regarding the point of impact, the profile of the victims, and the existence of injured persons, elements that are therefore not presented as definitively established.
The Ivorian Press Agency reports that the truck crashed into a restaurant located by the roadside, near the Irobo market. Its correspondent describes among the victims an employee of an oil mill who was having his meal, a pork vendor, and two young people caught by the rain.
KOACI provides a different account and states that the truck struck fish vendors, while reporting several injuries. These details do not appear in the Ivorian agency’s report, which presents different profiles of the victims.
The agency also cites a witness who stated that the driver tried to avoid another truck entering an oil mill. This version is based on a testimony, while KOACI indicates that the causes of the off-road incident remain unknown.
Irobo is located on the coastal road connecting Dabou to Grand-Lahou. According to the Ivorian Press Agency, the accident occurred in a busy area near the market, without speed bumps or safety barriers.
The death toll common to both reports remained fixed at four on Sunday, the day after the accident.
