Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé scored on Wednesday, October 21, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium the final goal in Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over his former club RB Leipzig, during the third matchday of the Champions League.
Coming on in the 70th minute to replace Vinícius Júnior, the 19-year-old player influenced two goals in seventeen minutes. He first assisted Kylian Mbappé at the edge of the box for Madrid’s third goal in the 83rd minute, then volleyed a cross from Brahim Díaz four minutes later.
Real took the lead through Bernardo Silva in the 44th minute before Arda Güler doubled the advantage in the 52nd. Tidiam Gomis reduced the gap for Leipzig in the 85th minute, between goals from Mbappé and Diomandé.
The score does not fully reflect Madrid’s difficulties at the start of the match. Thibaut Courtois made two important saves in the first half, before his team made the difference through their efficiency after the break.
This victory allows Real Madrid to maintain a perfect record with three wins in three Champions League matchdays. The Spanish club also remains on a streak of four consecutive victories across all competitions.
Arriving from Leipzig during the summer of 2026, Diomandé faced his former club for the first time wearing the Madrid jersey. His performance came three days after a goal and an assist against Sevilla in the league.
According to UEFA statistics, the Ivorian international now has one goal and two assists in three European appearances this season. Real must face FC Barcelona again on Sunday, October 25, in La Liga.
