Twelve people have been placed under formal detention in the investigation into the death of Gendarmerie Second Lieutenant Daniogo Klênon Lacina, who was killed on October 20, 2025, on the Grand-Yapo-Agboville route, announced the Public Prosecutor at the Abidjan First Instance Court in a statement dated Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The twelve individuals involved had been brought before the prosecutor’s office of the Anti-Terrorism Section of the Abidjan court four days earlier. A judicial investigation was opened on several charges, including terrorist acts, an attack and a conspiracy against state authority, participation in an insurrectional movement, and murder.

According to the version presented by the public prosecutor’s office, armed men opened fire on a gendarmerie patrol on October 20, 2025. The public prosecutor describes them as opponents of the presidential election held the same month. Second Lieutenant Daniogo Klênon Lacina was killed during this attack.

The prosecutor states that several individuals apprehended have admitted their involvement in the events and identified one of the suspects as the person who fired at the gendarmes. According to the statement, this man was subsequently arrested and admitted to having used a Kalashnikov-type weapon. These elements currently represent the prosecution’s version.

The prosecutions are based notably on the law of June 11, 2024, concerning the repression of terrorism as well as on several provisions of the Ivorian Penal Code. The statement does not specify the date of the next hearing or the schedule of the investigation.

The placement under remand occurs one year after the attack. The twelve individuals prosecuted remain presumed innocent until a final court decision has established their guilt.
