Sébastien Dano Djédjé, president of the Strategic and Political Council of the PPA-CI, was indicted on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Abidjan on approximately seventeen charges, then placed under judicial supervision, according to his lawyer Me Roselyne Aka-Serikpa. The former minister returned to his home after his hearing and was not placed in pretrial detention.

The charges cited by the lawyer include murder, threats to state security, theft, destruction of public property, and participation in a banned demonstration. At this stage, they constitute accusations under judicial review and are not facts established by a court ruling.

Mr. Aka-Serikpa indicated that part of the prosecutions were related to the unrest surrounding the October 2025 presidential election. He specified that he did not have further details on the specific charges against his client. When contacted by AFP, the Public Prosecutor Oumar Braman Koné had not responded by midday on Monday.

Judicial supervision imposes a travel restriction on the political figure. He cannot leave Ivorian territory without the authorization of the authorities in charge of the investigation, according to his lawyer, who also challenges the regularity of the procedure followed.

The PPA-CI had initially announced in a statement that its leader had returned home after his appearance before the anti-terrorism unit. This confirmation established that no detention order had been issued, without yet detailing the charges brought or the conditions attached to the judicial supervision.

The procedure follows those initiated against other officials of Laurent Gbagbo’s party. Justin Koné Katinan was charged in September and placed in pretrial detention, while Damana Pickass has been held since November in a case also related to the violence during the 2025 electoral period.

Ivorian authorities maintain that the proceedings initiated concern common law matters and not the political affiliation of the individuals prosecuted. The individuals implicated benefit from the presumption of innocence as long as a final decision has not established their responsibility.
