A local RHDP official in Abidjan publicly condemned, on Sunday, September 28, the criticisms directed at Cissé Ibrahima Bacongo within the ruling political family, while the issue of the demolitions in Koumassi-Campement remains at the heart of a judicial process.
Koné Abdramane, RHDP section secretary of “Les Mésanges” in Adjamé, states in a publicly released message that communicators close to certain party officials and elected representatives are involved in attacks against the minister-governor of the Autonomous District of Abidjan. He calls on party leaders to resolve their disagreements within internal bodies rather than on social media.
A political sequence against the backdrop of a judicial investigation
This statement does not constitute an official declaration from the RHDP leadership. However, it comes in a context where the Koumassi-Campement case has been fueling political reactions since the press conference held by the Public Prosecutor on September 16.
Prosecutor Braman Koné had then indicated that the judicial investigation opened following the demolitions on June 3 was ongoing and that several individuals likely to possess useful information had already been interviewed. He had not announced any definitive conclusion to the investigation.
On September 22, the Office of the Council of the Autonomous District of Abidjan had, for its part, expressed “firm, total, and unconditional” support for Cissé Bacongo. The first vice-governor Danho Paulin Claude had defended the minister-governor’s actions regarding urban order and the safety of the population.
Koné Abdramane’s new statement thus adds an internal dimension to the political debate, without establishing the existence of an official RHDP position either against or in favor of the criticisms made within the party.
