Ivory Coast has approved the main legal texts and operational tools intended to regulate its local markets, a network that is expected to include 155 sites across the country.

The documents were reviewed on September 24 and 25 in Jacqueville during a workshop organized by the Management Committee of the Office for the Marketing Assistance of Food Products (OCPV) with LadyAgri.

30 contracts completed, 19 already operational

Of the 155 contracts planned as part of the second phase of the Government’s social programme, 30 have already been completed and 19 are fully operational, according to official figures.

The approved texts notably include a draft law on the organization of the marketing of food products, a draft interministerial decree intended for the 33 regional prefects to combat informal “field-edge” trade, as well as the statutes and internal regulations of the markets.

The system also includes a manual of administrative and financial procedures, an operational guide, and a self-financing economic model for the sites. An assessment of marketing channels is intended to serve as the basis for the future National Marketing Strategy for food products.

The program is co-financed notably by the European Development Fund and aims to further structure the marketing of agricultural products, while improving food security and the incomes of stakeholders in the sector.
