The Special Surveillance and Intervention Brigade (BSSI) destroyed four dredges, eight engines, two washing plants, and seven mineral retention belts during an operation against illegal gold mining on the Boin River, in Mouassué, South Comoé.
The operation was carried out on September 29 by the detachment from the Noé Forward Base. A drone enabled the location of facilities that had resumed activity despite previous eviction operations.
The occupants flee towards Ghana
According to the Ministry of Water and Forests, the occupants fled towards Ghanaian territory upon the arrival of the agents. However, the BSSI’s watercraft enabled access to the installations located on the Ivorian side and their dismantling.
No arrests or seizures were recorded. The operation also aims to reduce watercourse pollution linked to illegal mining activities.
