INTERCOTON is preparing the update of digital management tools for cotton cooperatives, with a system allowing their identification and location. A study dedicated to this project was reviewed on October 6 and 7 in Yamoussoukro, according to a statement from the interprofessional organization reported on Sunday, October 11 by the Ivorian Press Agency.
The workshop brought together around forty participants. It is part of the Cotton Systems Resilience Project in Northern Côte d’Ivoire, known as RESCO.
Three complementary tools are involved. GESCOOP focuses on cooperative management, EASYCOMPTA on simplified accounting, while an identification system must incorporate the georeferencing of structures. The adjustments aim notably to adapt the applications to the practices of cooperatives and to accounting requirements.
The mapping component should enable the identification of legally established cooperatives, the identification of their leaders, and better documentation of their operations. The Federation of Unions of Cotton Producers’ Cooperative Societies of Côte d’Ivoire must be able to rely on this information for its monitoring and support.
This administrative project supports other interventions of the RESCO program in the sector. On July 3 in Bouaké, the Minister of Agriculture, Bruno Nabagné Koné, presided over the handover of equipment to the Cotton Sorting Center. He then emphasized the quality of the fiber, research, and local processing, while advocating for a new phase of the project.
In a communication dated September 23, the ministry subsequently indicated that the new director of the French Development Agency in Côte d’Ivoire, Florian Raffarin, had reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting phase 2 of RESCO.
