The Office for the Marketing Assistance of Food Products handed over 84 scales and 14 weighing machines to female traders in Nassian on Friday, October 9. These 98 instruments are intended to promote sales by weight in the trade of food products.
The distribution took place at the prefecture during a meeting dedicated to local markets. It was led by the head of the OCPV regional office in Bondoukou, Dié Offey Jean Michel, in the presence of a representative from the cassava interprofessional organization.
The Office presents weighing as a means to improve the transparency of prices paid by consumers and the traceability of marketed products. The mission carried out in Nassian also included the census and awareness-raising of stakeholders in the sector.
This local handover takes place as the State seeks to further structure local food markets. The legal texts and operational tools of this network were approved on September 24 and 25 during a workshop organized in Jacqueville by the OCPV management committee.
The national program plans for 155 local markets. As of September 26, the government reported that 30 had been completed and 19 were fully operational.
Sale by weight was already part of the announced operation for these facilities. In Nassian, the operation makes this approach concrete through equipment handed directly to the female traders.
