A 33-year-old Ivorian suspected of posing as a German journalist to extort money from women met online was arrested in Deux-Plateaux, Abidjan, according to the Ivorian Press Agency, which cites a Police Secours report.
The suspect, identified by the initials K. K. C., used the pseudonym “Chris Khan Narkelz.” He presented himself as a German military journalist on a mission for the European Union and promised some interlocutors a serious relationship, marriage, and a move to Germany.
According to information reported by AIP and several Ivorian media outlets, he then allegedly demanded money for the preparation of supposed travel documents. A first victim is said to have paid 175,000 FCFA before contact was cut off.
The investigators apprehended him on September 16 in Deux-Plateaux. Another local media outlet reports that he had just received 200,000 FCFA from a woman.
The man was presented as a suspect in several similar cases. Prosecution and the final classification of the facts fall under the ongoing judicial procedure.
