The National Agricultural Union for Progress in Côte d’Ivoire (SYNAP-CI) is maintaining pressure on the authorities regarding the cocoa price set at 1,200 FCFA per kilogram and is now warning producers about operations concerning the residual stock from the previous campaign.
In a statement made on Wednesday, September 30, its president Koné Moussa called on producers to remain vigilant in response to a circular concerning the removal of this stock. The union is thus continuing the movement initiated on September 16.
A dispute that goes beyond the farm-gate price
The SYNAP-CI challenges the level of remuneration for planters and calls for greater transparency in the management of the volumes remaining to be marketed. These demands come as Côte d’Ivoire applies a guaranteed price of 1,200 FCFA/kg.
Neighboring Ghana has raised its producer price for the new campaign, intensifying comparisons between the two leading global producers.
The statements regarding the management of the residual stock at this stage reflect the position of SYNAP-CI; they do not constitute an independent conclusion on the marketing operations.
