Oumar Diakité scored both goals for Sturm Graz in the victory at Austria Vienna’s home ground (2-0) on Saturday, October 10. The Ivorian striker scored just before halftime and then from a penalty, allowing his team to leave the Generali Arena with all three points.
His first goal came in the added time of the first half (45+1). From a cross by Luca Weinhandl, he headed the ball in from close range. The match sheet published by Sturm Graz confirms this opening goal and the second goal in the 55th minute.
The double was confirmed following a video assistant referee intervention. After a duel in the penalty area, the referee initially penalized Diakité for simulation. He reviewed his decision after the VAR check and awarded a penalty, which was converted by the Ivorian.
On loan from Stade de Reims, the 22-year-old player thus brings his total to three goals in his third league appearance, according to the report from the Austrian Bundesliga. He left the field in the 64th minute, replaced by Axel Kayombo.
This success comes as Sturm had to cope with eight injured players and the suspension of Jürgen Heil. After doubling the lead, the visitors had further chances through Simon Seidl, before withstanding Austria’s offensive comeback in the final minutes.
Sturm Graz will travel to Bournemouth on Thursday for the Europa League. The club will then play the Graz derby on Sunday.
