Sanitation workers and local committees of Abobo received a new batch of equipment from ECOTI SA on Thursday, October 8, on the town hall esplanade. The allocation notably includes 105 wheelbarrows and 34,000 garbage bags, intended for cleanliness operations in the neighborhoods.
The batch also includes 390 shovels, as many rakes, 1,070 brooms, 1,950 pairs of gloves, and two tricycles. Thirty bins were handed over: twenty with a capacity of 240 litres and ten of 360 litres.
Mayor Kandia Camara has asked the Local Committees for Sanitation, Cleanliness, and Hygiene (CLASH) to maintain their actions as close as possible to the residents.
The reinforcement of resources comes as unsanitary conditions persist in the municipality. Committee representatives specifically mentioned illegal dumping and waste thrown in the streets and gutters. Kandia Camara urged ECOTI to increase its presence on the ground.
An initial delivery took place on June 9. According to RTI, the 69 CLASH members then received 345 wheelbarrows, 69,000 garbage bags, and other tools, as well as a sum of 5 million FCFA.
Beyond the community equipment, ECOTI announces an expansion of the collection system. Its chairman of the board, Rafik Ben Ayed, stated that more than 700 collection, sweeping, and cleaning agents are assigned to Abobo by its partner Moya.
The company plans to increase the fleet dedicated to Abobo to 117 vehicles and 190 metal containers between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
