Abidjan will host the Sustainable Mobility and Climate Week from October 19 to 22, but the African Artisan Transport Fair originally scheduled for October 20 and 21 has been postponed. The international conference, however, will go ahead, with approximately 1,500 participants expected, the Urban Mobility Authority of Greater Abidjan (AMUGA) announced on Thursday, October 15.
The program includes several distinct events. The Codatu scientific conference will be held on Monday, October 19; the two main days of the International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate (CIMDC) are scheduled for October 20 and 21, at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire, in Cocody. Technical visits are planned for October 22.
Registrations are not interchangeable. According to the terms published by the organizers, the CIMDC ticket grants access to the events on October 20 and 21 as well as to the technical visits. The scientific meeting on October 19 requires a separate registration and is intended for individuals affiliated with a research or training institution.
The modernization of artisanal transport will remain on the agenda despite the postponement of its exhibition. In an announcement dated October 9, Codatu specifies that workshops will be dedicated to the digitization of the sector, its governance, and the organization of its operators. A meeting of this ecosystem is also scheduled for October 19, by invitation, at the Mövenpick Hotel.
The debates will more broadly focus on the financing of transportation, the links between mobility and urban planning, and the adaptation of cities to climate change. During his press briefing, reported by Fraternité Matin, the Director General of AMUGA, Romain Kouakou, notably announced a roundtable between the authority’s strategic council and the mayors within the urban transport perimeter of Greater Abidjan.
The event is organized by AMUGA, Codatu, and Climate Chance. The new dates for the African Artisan Transport Fair will be announced later, states Codatu.
