Ivorian Minister Sidi Ti\u00e9moko Tour\u00e9 announced on Friday, November 6, that he had been re-elected vice-president of the Liberal International at the conclusion of the organization\u2019s 65th congress, held from November 2 to 6 in Bangkok, Thailand, and then in Taipei, Taiwan.<\/p>\n
The website of the Liberal International lists the leader of the Rassemblement des houphou\u00ebtistes pour la d\u00e9mocratie et la paix among its vice-presidents. The organization had confirmed before the congress that this statutory meeting, the first held in Asia since 2014, would take place in the two Asian capitals.<\/p>\n
In a message published on Facebook and reported by the Ivorian Press Agency, Sidi Tour\u00e9 presented this renewal as a sign of confidence from his peers. He stated his intention to continue his work in support of freedoms, democracy, and the market economy alongside other leaders of the international liberal movement.<\/p>\n
The ALDE Party, which brings together European liberal parties, has confirmed the election of the bureau of the Liberal International for the 2026-2028 period. Its report indicates that the German Karl-Heinz Paqu\u00e9 was reappointed as president, while the Dutchman Lennart Salemink was elected vice president alongside a team of vice presidents representing several regions of the world.<\/p>\n
Sidi Tour\u00e9\u2019s new mandate extends the one obtained during the 64th congress held in Santiago, Chile, in December 2024. The official report of this meeting then cited him among the six elected vice-presidents and specified that he represented the RHDP and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n
According to AIP, the minister thanked President Alassane Ouattara as well as the chairman of the RHDP executive board, Gilbert Kon\u00e9 Kafana, following this re-election. He also mentioned the participation of delegates representing 166 political parties from five continents, a figure reported from his publication.<\/p>\n
The 65th congress focused on building resilient democracies for a secure future. Delegates notably examined the effects of artificial intelligence on democracy, cyberattacks, cross-border pressures, and ways to bring liberal parties closer to young voters.
