The Ivorian government and frozen fish trade stakeholders agreed on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Abidjan to a provisional reduction of 2,500 FCFA on the 20 kg carton of horse mackerel and mackerel, following protests by female traders in Daloa and Abobo.<\/p>\n
The agreed price has been reduced from 33,000 to 30,500 CFA francs for both species. The agreement was reached during a meeting chaired by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Handicrafts, Ibrahim Kalil Konat\u00e9, with importers, wholesalers, semi-wholesalers, retailers, and consumer representatives.<\/p>\n
The reduction concerns the price of cardboard upstream in the supply chain and does not set a uniform retail price. A monitoring committee must verify its impact at each level of distribution to ensure that the decrease effectively reaches consumers.<\/p>\n
This decision comes the day after the suspension of sales announced by the traders of Daloa until Monday, October 26. In their demands, they notably cited significant price increases on Apolo and Sosso, while the measure agreed upon Thursday currently targets horse mackerel and mackerel.<\/p>\n
The representatives of the female vendors called for the resumption of activities after the meeting. However, the agreement is still presented as temporary, and further discussions are to focus on other species as well as the market supply conditions.<\/p>\n
Marthe Kal\u00e9, president of the importers of frozen meat and fish, confirmed her corporation’s commitment to implementing the reduction. The Ivorian Consumers Federation Le R\u00e9veil also approved the compromise reached with the professionals.<\/p>\n
The minister attributed part of the price tensions to transportation and hydrocarbon costs as well as the country’s dependence on imports of certain species. He urged operators to engage with the ministry’s services through dialogue in case of any new difficulties.<\/p>\n
The government has announced the upcoming creation of an observatory for price formation and margins.
