Ivorian actor Isaach De Bankol\u00e9 and Franco-Ivorian director Philippe Lac\u00f4te will launch the Premier Continent project in Abidjan from October 25 to 27, 2026. This project brings together a future pan-African school of theatre and cinema as well as an international festival scheduled to begin in 2027.<\/p>\n
The establishment must be located in Riviera Golf and offer specialized training for actors from C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire and the sub-region. The promoters intend to include a professional curriculum, masterclasses, and support aimed at facilitating young talents’ access to national and international productions.<\/p>\n
The festival component aims to provide a platform for African films and to bring professionals closer to producers, broadcasters, and funding organizations. Its first edition is scheduled for late November or early December 2027, with outdoor screenings planned in several neighborhoods of Abidjan.<\/p>\n
The launch will be marked on October 26 by the arrival of Thierry Fr\u00e9maux, general delegate of the Cannes Festival. He is scheduled to lead a masterclass at the Majestic Ivoire before presenting the film Fjord<\/em> by Romanian director Cristian Mungiu at the Path\u00e9 Cap Sud cinema.<\/p>\n Fjord<\/em> received the Palme d\u2019Or on May 23, 2026, at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, according to the official awards list. Isaach De Bankol\u00e9 was part of the feature film jury chaired by South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, which gives the Abidjan launch a direct connection to the latest edition of the festival.<\/p>\n Philippe Lac\u00f4te also has a background connected to Cannes. His first feature film, Run<\/em>, was selected in 2014 in the Un Certain Regard section and competed for the Cam\u00e9ra d\u2019Or. The director had explained at the time that the film was informed by committed documentary work carried out in Abidjan during the Ivorian political-military crisis.<\/p>\n Premier Continent is announced in partnership with the Ivorian ministries responsible for Culture, Communication, Youth, and Tourism. The project also aims to promote co-productions between countries of the Global South and to connect students with African and European partners.<\/p>\n The program for October 26 includes a press conference with Isaach De Bankol\u00e9 and Thierry Fr\u00e9maux, a visit to the site of the future school at Riviera Golf, the masterclass, and the screening of Fjord<\/em>.
