The Ivorian Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Fran\u00e7oise Remarck, launched the “Generation Heritage” initiative on Wednesday, October 14, in Abidjan. The initiative includes consultations in six cities to involve young people in the promotion of heritage and the future of museums.<\/p>\n
The meetings are scheduled to take place in Abengourou, Bouak\u00e9, Bondoukou, Daloa, and Korhogo, before concluding in Abidjan. They are intended to bring together youth with scientists, academics, traditional authorities, and resource persons, in order to gather proposals on the role of heritage in Ivorian society.<\/p>\n
The proposals collected must be presented in a white paper and a documentary. These two materials are intended to report on the discussions regarding the enhancement of heritage and the development of museums.<\/p>\n
According to the ministry, the project is based on transmission between generations. It aims to bring young people closer to the holders of knowledge, stories, and memory, while giving them a role in the way this heritage is presented and shared.<\/p>\n
Digital technology is among the tools selected for this approach. The ministry highlights the creation in two and three dimensions as well as digital mediation, while a virtual reality demonstration was presented during the launch at the Museum of Civilizations of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, in Abidjan-Plateau.<\/p>\n
France supports this initiative, which also involved Expertise France, a scientific committee, and civil society actors. Present at the ceremony, Ambassador Jean-Christophe Belliard emphasized the importance of engaging with populations in the regions and the potential to make collections more accessible through their digitization.<\/p>\n
