Kenyan Amos Kipruto won the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 11, 2026, in 2:01:09, while Ethiopian Hawi Feysa retained her women’s title in 2:13:33. Both races were won following a decisive acceleration in their second half.

Kipruto finished ahead of the Ethiopians Tadese Bikila, second in 2 h 02 min 56 s, and Milkesa Mengesha, third in 2 h 03 min 46 s. The Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo, defending champion, finished fourth after having accompanied the future winner at the front of the race.

This victory extends a three-edition progression for Kipruto, who finished third in Chicago in 2024 and then second in 2025. His time remains 34 seconds behind the course record set by Kelvin Kiptum, established at 2:00:35 in 2023.

In the women’s event, Feysa held off Sharon Lokedi before making the difference in the final mile. The Kenyan crossed the finish line in 2 hours 14 minutes 07 seconds, ahead of her compatriot Brigid Kosgei, who finished third in 2 hours 14 minutes 55 seconds. The top three thus completed the 42.195 kilometers in under 2 hours 15 minutes.

With her time of 2 hours 13 minutes 33 seconds, Feysa now ranks fourth among the fastest female marathon runners in history, according to the organizer.

More than 54,000 participants took part in this forty-eighth edition, whose route passed through 29 neighborhoods of Chicago.
