A well-considered and deliberate decision, as she explained during her appearance on the television program Week-end Carrefour<\/em>. Contrary to rumors, the name change has nothing to do with fellow singer Josey or her former best friend Daysie, who had merely suggested alternate spellings of \u201cDe Latour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI didn\u2019t change my name because of Josey or because of Daysie Frangine. Daysie had just proposed different spellings for \u2018De Latour,\u2019 which wasn\u2019t even what I ended up choosing. I changed my name simply because \u2018De Latour\u2019 sounded too Western. \u2018Essy,\u2019 which is my Ebri\u00e9 name, is also used in some regions of Ivory Coast.
