In Ouagadougou, hundreds of demonstrators gathered at Revolution Square, waving the flags of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Placards condemning Western\u2014particularly American\u2014interference were prominently displayed, with slogans such as \u201cAFRICOM is a terrorist organization\u201d and \u201cNo to Western meddling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The protests came in response to recent accusations by General Michael Langley, head of U.S. AFRICOM, against President Traor\u00e9. The remarks were denounced as \u201cbaseless\u201d and \u201cdefamatory\u201d by Honor\u00e9 Samandoulougou, president of the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC), who condemned what he called a neo-colonial attempt at destabilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burkina Faso\u2019s Prime Minister Jean-Emmanuel Ou\u00e9draogo was present at the rally, leading a government delegation. He delivered an official message from President Traor\u00e9, praising the domestic and international mobilization. He urged vigilance in the face of imperialist maneuvers, stating that \u201c1987 is not 2025,\u201d and that \u201cthe fighters for freedom are standing tall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
