The renowned agent revealed that the Brazilian star could have joined Real Madrid instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in 2013, Neymar was making his European debut. Signed by Bar\u00e7a for \u20ac57 million (or \u20ac83 million according to Spanish courts), the Brazilian dazzled football fans. Alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Su\u00e1rez, he enjoyed four successful seasons in Catalonia, including a Champions League title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But things could have gone differently. According to Andr\u00e9 Cury, who played a key role in Neymar\u2019s move to Bar\u00e7a, Real Madrid pulled out all the stops to try and sign the forward \u2014 to no avail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMadrid offered \u20ac100 million more than Barcelona for Neymar. A hundred million euros. The player chose Barcelona, obviously thanks to our work, since we were working for them at the time. Maybe if I\u2019d been working for Madrid, Neymar would have ended up there instead (laughs). (\u2026) As I\u2019m telling you, Madrid offered \u20ac100 million more than Bar\u00e7a. On top of the salary, the transfer fee, and the \u20ac40 million penalty Barcelona had to pay because of a pre-agreement with Neymar, Madrid was ready to put down \u20ac100 million more than Bar\u00e7a, who eventually gave him a five-year contract,\u201d Cury told <em>AS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn total, it amounted to over \u20ac200 million. The payments weren\u2019t yearly salaries, they were bonuses. They offered him a fortune. Back then, I did the math \u2014 if you combined Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets in 2013, the four of them together didn\u2019t reach \u20ac100 million. Neymar came to Barcelona to fulfill a dream.
