During an episode of the podcast Carla pour toi on Thursday, April 24, former French First Lady Carla Bruni reacted to the deletion of her 13-year-old daughter Giulia Sarkozy’s TikTok account. The platform’s decision clearly did not sit well with the renowned singer and model.

While Giulia Sarkozy seemed to be enjoying herself on the social media platform, her account was suddenly and without warning banned. Carla Bruni expressed her incomprehension, lamenting the fact that numerous fake accounts using her daughter’s image remain active and unchecked. “And they banned her on top of that!” she exclaimed, criticizing what she described as TikTok France’s incoherent policies.

The protective mother explained that she had tried several times to contact the platform to seek clarification or have the situation remedied, but to no avail. “We write and write, but it feels like we’re only dealing with machines,” she said, denouncing what she called an opaque and dehumanized process. In a final burst of frustration, she added: “TikTok France, that’s not very nice!”

Carla Bruni’s intervention once again highlights the shortcomings of social media moderation, especially for minors, who often face automatic decisions without proper consideration of individual circumstances.
