Sweden: teenager arrested after deadly shooting in Uppsala

A 16-year-old has been arrested following a deadly shooting in southeastern Sweden, police commander Erik Åkerlund announced during a press conference on Wednesday, April 30.

The incident took place Tuesday evening at a hair salon named Shalom in Uppsala, a city located approximately 70 kilometers north of Stockholm. At least three people, aged between 15 and 20, were killed in the attack, with several others injured.

Police responded swiftly to emergency calls reporting gunfire in the city center, quickly cordoning off a large perimeter around the scene. An investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released any information about the identities of the victims or the arrested suspect.

This tragedy comes less than three months after a separate mass shooting on February 4 at the Risbergska campus in Örebro, which left around ten people dead. The alleged shooter, 35-year-old Rickard Andersson, took his own life after the attack. Most of the victims in that incident were immigrants.
