Sidya Touré, former Prime Minister of Guinea and president of the Union of Republican Forces (UFR), will be buried in Abidjan on October 2, 2026, according to information provided by his family circle.
The body of the former Guinean head of government, who passed away in Paris, is expected in the Ivorian economic capital on October 1st. Tribute ceremonies are to precede the burial, with the detailed program yet to be announced.
Abidjan chosen by the family
The choice of Côte d’Ivoire was made by Sidya Touré’s family. His relatives notably cited the presence of his children and grandchildren in Abidjan, as well as the absence of a family residence available in Conakry.
The UFR is also preparing a delegation of activists and officials who will travel to Côte d’Ivoire for the funeral. The party had already announced tributes to its former leader following his death.
Sidya Touré led the Guinean government from 1996 to 1999 before becoming one of the main opposition figures. He also served as High Representative of the Head of State between 2016 and 2018.
Born in Côte d’Ivoire in 1945, the former Prime Minister had maintained close ties with Abidjan. His burial in the Ivorian economic capital will thus give a regional dimension to the ceremonies organized following his passing.
