Weeks after Ivory Coast’s triumph at AFCON 2023, Samuel Eto’o extended his congratulations to Emerse Fae, the head coach of the Elephants.

The curtain has come down on the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). And the coveted title was won by Emerse Fae’s youngsters. About a month later, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, responded. In an interview with France 24, the former Cameroonian international offered his congratulations to the Ivorian coach who led the Elephants to victory. “I say congratulations to the Ivorian coach who didn’t have experience at this level, but who deserved to win the trophy,” stated the former FC Barcelona striker.

It should be noted that called upon to take over the national team after the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset due to insufficient results, Emerse Fae performed a remarkable feat by winning AFCON 2023 with the Elephants. He thus becomes the second Ivorian coach to win the AFCON with the team after Yéo Martial. He also joins the exclusive circle of 12 African technicians who have clinched the continental tournament.
