HomeSportFootballReal Madrid: Antonio Rüdiger ruled out for the rest of the season

Antonio Rüdiger has undergone successful surgery for a partial tear of the lateral meniscus in his left leg and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks, effectively ending his season.

It’s a rough end to the campaign for the Real Madrid center-back. Already facing a possible 4-to-12 match suspension following his outburst during the Copa del Rey final, the German international now finds himself out of action due to injury.

The 32-year-old defender underwent surgery to repair a partial tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee. While the procedure went well, Rüdiger will remain off the pitch for six to eight weeks as he recovers, meaning he will miss the remainder of the season.

“Our player Antonio Rüdiger successfully underwent surgery today for a partial tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee. The operation was performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical staff. Rüdiger will begin rehabilitation work shortly,” the club announced in a statement released Tuesday on its social media platforms.

As a result, Rüdiger will miss the final stretch of the La Liga title race as well as most of the FIFA Club World Cup.
