RFI and France 24 have announced Achraf Hakimi as the winner of the 2024 Marc-Vivien Foé Award, which honors the best African player in France’s Ligue 1. The Moroccan right-back, a standout performer for Paris Saint-Germain this season, beat out Ivorian forward Evann Guessand and Senegalese midfielder Habib Diarra to claim the prize.
A finalist last year, Hakimi finally captured the award with a commanding 364 points, finishing well ahead of Guessand (165 points) and Diarra (43 points). According to RFI, he becomes only the second defender to win the prize after DR Congo’s Chancel Mbemba in 2023, and the fourth Moroccan to receive the honor, following Marouane Chamakh (2009), Younès Belhanda (2012), and Sofiane Boufal (2016).
Widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world, Hakimi has been instrumental in PSG’s campaign this season. The club remains in contention for a historic treble—Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League.
The Moroccan star now turns his focus to PSG’s Champions League final showdown against Inter Milan on May 31. A victory in Munich could further strengthen his case for the 2025 African Footballer of the Year award.
