HomeSportFootballNottingham Forest: update on Taiwo Awoniyi's health condition

Nottingham Forest coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has provided the latest update on Taiwo Awoniyi’s health.

According to Espirito Santo, Awoniyi is still in the hospital recovering, after being placed in an induced coma following emergency abdominal surgery. Awoniyi ruptured his intestine after a collision with the goalpost during the 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Sunday.

The Super Eagles striker was treated on the field and tried to continue playing despite obvious discomfort. He was eventually admitted to the hospital on Monday evening after further investigations by Forest’s medical staff.

“He underwent surgery (on the abdomen) and the operation went well, thank God,” said Nottingham Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo this Friday. “He is now under observation, recovering. We still have to wait for the doctors to authorize visits. His family is there, which is the most important thing to support him,” added the Portuguese coach.

“We are concerned, but we are positive. It has been very difficult for everyone. The injury he had, the situation he went through, all of this has been very tough for us,” he confided. Less utilized this season, Taiwo Awoniyi has played 26 matches with Nottingham Forest, scoring only one goal. The Nigerian striker is expected to remain under observation for five more days before being discharged from the hospital.
