Niger: General Abdourahamane Tiani Makes Minor Cabinet Reshuffle

Niger’s transitional president, General Abdourahamane Tiani, has announced a minor reshuffle of his government.

Through a decree signed on Thursday, April 17, General Tiani reorganized his cabinet, creating three new ministries in the process.

This government restructuring resulted in the dismissal of five ministers. Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine has retained his position as Prime Minister, but several ministries have changed leadership. A number of civil society figures have also joined the new administration.

The recent national consultations held in the country prompted this reshuffle. The dialogue helped redefine the transition’s priorities and laid the groundwork for national reconciliation, which had been undermined following the July 26, 2023 coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.
