Mali’s Prime Minister, Abdoulaye Maïga, presented the government’s action program for the period 2025-2026 to the National Transition Council (CNT) on Friday May 16, 2025. Structured around eight priorities, this plan is in line with the orientations defined by the President of the Transition at the inaugural Council of Ministers on November 27, 2024.
At the heart of this program is national security. The government intends to recruit 15,000 additional soldiers, build new military camps in Bougouni, Kita, Djema and Niuro, and reinforce the equipment of the armed forces. A military hospital is also under construction. In terms of internal security, 9,000 new agents will be added, with a focus on securing road axes and deploying patrols throughout the country.
The plan also takes into account the geopolitical environment, notably the creation in July 2024 of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), bringing together Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. This alliance aims to harmonize defense, mobility and international representation policies.
On the political front, the government reaffirms its commitment to transparent and peaceful elections. Legislative and regulatory reforms are continuing in collaboration with the Independent Electoral Management Authority (AIGE). However, no new date has been set for the presidential election, which has been postponed from February-March 2024 to September 2023.
