French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis.

“We will be at the Pope’s funeral, as is fitting,” he stated on the BFMTV news channel.

Pope Francis passed away on the morning of April 21 at the age of 88, the day after Easter Sunday—which, for the first time in eleven years, was celebrated on the same date by both Orthodox and Catholic Christians. On the eve of his death, the Pope had offered his blessing to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square. He succumbed to a stroke, amid several underlying health conditions, including chronic respiratory illnesses.
