Libya: General Ali Ramadan al-Rayani killed in attack in Tripoli

Libyan army brigadier general Ali Ramadan al-Rayani was killed on Sunday during an attack by unidentified gunmen at his home in Khallet al-Farjan, in southern Tripoli, authorities announced.

An officer affiliated with the Government of National Unity (GNU) forces, al-Rayani succumbed to his injuries after an exchange of gunfire with the attackers. According to local media, three armed men stormed his residence.

GNU Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah condemned the assassination, praising “the martyr” who fell while defending his family. He also ordered an urgent investigation by the military prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of the crime, identify those responsible, and uncover their motives.

The attack comes amid ongoing security tensions in Tripoli.
