The Société de Distribution d’Eau de Côte d’Ivoire (SODECI) has announced a temporary water supply interruption on Sunday, May 18, 2025, affecting several southern districts of Abidjan. The outage is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and is tied to ongoing work on the Abidjan metro construction project.
The announcement, published on May 14 via SODECI’s official Facebook page, lists the affected areas as Koumassi, Marcory, Vridi, Port-Bouët, and Gonzagueville—densely populated and economically significant zones.
According to SODECI, the interruption is necessary due to technical interventions on the potable water network, where existing pipelines intersect with the metro’s planned route. These areas require reconfiguration of key water lines to accommodate the new infrastructure.
The company explained that Sunday was selected for the shutdown to minimize disruption to economic activity, although it acknowledged that residents and businesses should expect inconveniences. While assuring that all measures are in place to restore service “as quickly as possible,” SODECI did not specify when water would be back.
The company’s Marketing and Customer Relations Department, which issued the notice, apologized for the inconvenience and invited customers to reach out to its call center at 175 or use the “Ma SODECI en ligne” mobile app for updates and further information.
