Ivory Coast: summons of MP Bredoumy Soumaïla canceled

In Ivory Coast, the summons issued to MP Bredoumy Kouassi Soumaïla, spokesperson for the PDCI-RDA party, scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Abidjan police headquarters, has been officially canceled.

“The summons addressed to the Honorable Bredoumy Kouassi Soumaïla Traoré has been canceled,” stated a document signed by MP Simon Doho, president of the parliamentary group in the National Assembly. He expressed gratitude to National Assembly Speaker Adama Bictogo and Interior Minister General Vagondo Diomandé for their role in resolving the issue through dialogue.

Soumaïla had been asked to appear before the General Investigations Department in Abidjan on April 30 at 11 a.m., according to a notice issued the day before by the national police. The cancellation comes amid rising political tension following the removal of Cheick Tidjane Thiam from the electoral roll.

Authorities claim the PDCI-RDA leader lost his Ivorian nationality at the time of his registration. The party has condemned the move as a “judicial coup” and insists that reinstating its declared presidential candidate for the October election is “non-negotiable.”
