Ivorian teachers can no longer provide supplementary lessons to their own students for payment. The measure was reiterated by the Directorate of Schools, High Schools, and Colleges in a note made public on October 2, 2026, in the name of respecting professional ethics and equality among learners.

According to this directive, classes held during regular hours must be sufficiently clear, accessible, and adapted to the needs of the students. The administration considers that a teacher cannot therefore create, for the same students under their responsibility, a parallel paid offering likely to cause confusion between their public service mission and a private service.

This ban does not target all tutoring sessions. It specifically targets paid sessions organized by a teacher for their own students, in a context where educational authorities emphasize the ethics, responsibility, and exemplary conduct of teaching staff.

The reminder comes a few weeks after the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The Ministry of National Education has simultaneously strengthened teacher training: 4,900 contractual secondary school teachers have been recruited and deployed since April 2026, while several continuing education programs have been launched to improve the quality of educational supervision.

The Directorate of Schools, High Schools, and Colleges requests that school administrators and relevant staff ensure the enforcement of this rule during the 2026-2027 academic year.
