Ivorian Namizata Sangaré has been appointed Permanent Representative of the Economic Community of West African States in Gambia, Top News Africa agency announced on Saturday, October 17. The Ivorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had confirmed her new position the day before by receiving her in Abidjan.
The former president of the National Human Rights Council was received on Friday by Minister of State Nialé Kaba. Their discussion focused on regional integration, peace, and cooperation within the community space, according to the official report.
Top News Africa reports that this hearing preceded Namizata Sangaré’s departure for her assumption of duties in Gambia. The Ivorian ministry did not specify the duration of her mandate nor the exact date of her installation in Banjul.
Namizata Sangaré had led the National Human Rights Council for six years. The jurist Christian Arnaud Adjélou succeeded her and officially took office on April 10, 2026, according to the Ivorian Press Agency.
The new representative joins a permanent ECOWAS mission in a member country since the organization’s establishment in 1975. On Sunday morning, the ECOWAS website had not yet updated the page for this representation, which still displayed the name of the previous head.
