Guinea-Bissau inaugurates new electrical substation

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, officially inaugurated a new electrical substation in Bissau on Friday, built as part of the energy project led by the Organization for the Development of the Gambia River Basin.

Thanks to this new infrastructure, combined with the energy generated by two existing dams, more than half of Guinea-Bissau’s population will now have access to electricity, President Embalo stated. He was joined at the ceremony by his Gambian counterpart, Adama Barrow.

Embalo emphasized that the majority of the country’s residents, particularly those living in rural areas, still lack access to electricity— a situation he pledged to change.
