Eric Tinkler left his position as coach of Asante Kotoko with immediate effect on Monday, September 28, after only four Ghana Premier League matches. The club accepted the request of the South African coach, who cited personal reasons.

The separation comes the day after a 2-0 home defeat against Aduana FC, Kotoko’s first of the season. In four matches under Tinkler, the Porcupine Warriors recorded one win, two draws, and one loss.

A shortened term after less than three months

Tinkler took office in July, after several experiences in South Africa, notably at Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, and Sekhukhune United. His arrival in Kumasi represented one of his main challenges outside the South African league.

His stay, however, lasted only a few weeks. The club states that it tried to convince him to stay before accepting his request to leave. Asante Kotoko specifies that the technical team will continue its work under the coordination of the football director, Stanley Menzo.

Tinkler nevertheless leaves the club with the Democracy Cup trophy, won against Hearts of Oak on penalties before the start of the championship.

Kotoko must return to the field on Thursday, October 1st, against Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with a reorganized technical staff.
