HomePeopleFrance: rapper WeRenoi reportedly dies of heart failure at 31

French rapper WeRenoi has reportedly passed away during the night of Friday, May 16 to Saturday, May 17, following a critical heart failure, according to Public and several corroborating sources.

WeRenoi, whose real name was Jérémy Bana Owona, was 31 years old. He was admitted in critical condition to La Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, where he is said to have succumbed despite emergency care efforts.

The news first surfaced on social media through blogger Aqababe and quickly spread across platforms before being confirmed on Saturday morning. Adding to the speculation, the wife of the artist’s manager shared an Instagram story with a religious phrase commonly used in announcements of death—further reinforcing the somber news.

While no official statement has yet been released by the rapper’s family or team, the concert he was scheduled to perform tonight in Lyon has been cancelled.

WeRenoi rose to prominence in 2023, when he was named Male Revelation of the Year at Les Flammes, a ceremony celebrating urban music in France. His death marks the loss of one of the most promising voices in the French rap scene.
