The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed the relegation of local side Muhoroni Youth following a FIFA ruling that found the club guilty of match manipulation.
The decision comes after the world football governing body concluded that the second-tier club was involved in fixing matches, marking the latest scandal to hit Kenyan football, which has long struggled with integrity issues.
On Friday, FIFA declared Muhoroni Youth “guilty of activities related to the manipulation of football matches and competitions.” As a result, the club’s senior team has been expelled from the FKF National Super League, the country’s second division.
Muhoroni Youth will now be required to play in the Division One League—the third tier of Kenyan football—starting next season.
In response, the FKF stated it “fully supports FIFA’s decision” and reiterated its “zero-tolerance policy towards match-fixing and any form of manipulation that undermines the integrity of the game.”
