Togo will be the guest of honour country at the 30th edition of FESPACO, scheduled from March 20 to 27, 2027, in Ouagadougou. The event will have the theme “African Cinema and Endogenous Development.”
Togolese cinema is set to gain a major platform on the continental stage. The country’s selection was announced on September 24 by the Burkinabe government, following the Council of Ministers meeting.
In its official report, the executive explains that it aims to strengthen the ties between the peoples of Burkina Faso and Togo, stimulate cultural and professional exchanges, and contribute to the promotion of African cinemas.
The status of guest of honor country should grant Togo a special place in the festival’s programming and professional meetings. The announcement was also reported by Seneweb and by the Togolese media Renouveau 228.
The details of the Togolese delegation and the films that will represent the country have not yet been announced. Being the guest of honour does not guarantee inclusion in the official selection, the various sections of which will be announced separately.
This appointment extends a Togolese presence already visible during the 2025 edition, when the Togolese Minister of Culture participated in discussions in Ouagadougou with his African counterparts.
Created in Ouagadougou, FESPACO is one of the main events for African cinema. Its previous edition welcomed Chad as the guest of honour and awarded “Katanga, the Dance of the Scorpions” by the Burkinabé Dani Kouyaté.
