Ivorian football icon, Didier Drogba, has recently fallen victim to identity theft by an internet criminal. To protect his fans from potential scams, the famed athlete took the initiative to alert his online community. He urged them to remain vigilant and report the fraudulent account.

The phenomenon of identity theft carried out by cybercriminals remains a concern despite current technological advances. These online swindlers target celebrities from different sectors indiscriminately, whether active or retired, with the sole purpose of deceiving and extorting individuals through fake profiles that mimic public personalities such as artists, sports figures, or influencers.

Unfortunately, Didier Drogba has recently been added to the list of those victimized by these online scams. An individual with dubious intentions created a fake profile in his name, ostensibly to extract money from his fans. Aware of the danger, the football star quickly reacted to warn his followers against this fraud.

In a post on Tuesday, April 16, on his Facebook page, the former captain of the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire called on his followers to massively report the fake account. “My dear brothers and sisters, do not be fooled!!!! This is a scam, a fake. It is really sad that some are using my name and that of the foundation to steal and deceive. Beware of the harmful use of artificial intelligence,” he wrote. The ex-Chelsea forward even shared a photo of the fake account in question to draw his followers’ attention to be vigilant.
