Just hours after condemning the circumstances surrounding the arrest of their leader, the leadership of the opposition party Les Transformateurs was granted access to Succès Masra, who was detained by judicial police at dawn on Friday, May 16.
In a statement published on social media, party officials confirmed that Masra is in good health. The visit took place in the presence of his legal team. While urging their supporters to remain calm, Les Transformateurs also called for continued vigilance and mobilization pending further instructions.
Succès Masra, a former transitional prime minister, was arrested in connection with an investigation into a March 14, 2024 attack in the village of Mandakao, located 18 kilometers from Béïnamar in the Logone Occidental province.
According to a statement from the public prosecutor’s office in N’Djamena, Masra was taken into custody at 5:55 a.m. under a warrant issued by the Republic’s Prosecutor. He is suspected of spreading social media messages allegedly inciting armed violence against a local community.
The arrest marks a new escalation in political tensions in Chad, raising concerns among observers about the state of political freedoms and the treatment of opposition figures ahead of key national developments.
