Chad summoned the ambassador of the Central African Republic in N’Djamena on Sunday, October 11, to protest against a military operation that took place the previous day near Tissi, in a border area disputed according to the versions of the two governments.

According to Chadian authorities, Central African soldiers entered Abnabak, in the Salamat province, and caused several serious injuries among both military personnel and civilians. No detailed casualty figures have been released.

Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Kogri, has requested precise explanations from Bangui regarding the circumstances of the incident. He has tasked the Central African ambassador with delivering an official protest and a warning from his government.

N’Djamena states that this episode is part of a series of border incidents recorded since 2021.

Bangui, for its part, presents the operations of October 10 as a preventive action against armed groups that were allegedly preparing an offensive in the Vakaga prefecture, near the borders with Chad and Sudan. The Central African Ministry of Defense mentioned air strikes and ground operations carried out with the support of Russian military specialists.

The Central African authorities have not publicly acknowledged the entry of their forces into Chadian territory. They claim to have neutralized a threat composed of armed groups and foreign mercenaries, without providing an independently verifiable report.
