A violent clash in southern Chad left 35 people dead and 6 others injured on Wednesday, according to an official statement released Thursday by Chadian authorities.
The incident occurred in the village of Mandakao, located approximately 18 kilometers from Beinamar, in the Logone Occidental province. The government’s statement did not disclose the identities or affiliations of those involved in the deadly altercation.
In response, Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina dispatched a government delegation to the site, led by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, along with the Minister of Public Security, to assess the situation and provide support to the affected communities.
The government has strongly condemned the “barbaric acts” and pledged that all necessary measures are being taken to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible and their accomplices.
An appeal was also made for calm, restraint, and national unity, as the country seeks to avoid further violence and preserve peace and social cohesion in a region frequently impacted by intercommunal tensions and security challenges.
